Woolwich Attacks: Not in our name.

Wednesday 22nd May 2013

We the congregation of Masjid e Umer, Walthamstow share the absolute horror felt  by the rest of British society at the sick and barbaric crime that was committed yesterday in Woolwich.

We condemn this heinous atrocity in the strongest possible terms - it is a senseless act of pure depravity worthy of nothing but contempt.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the as yet un-named victim.

Already, we have seen a small minority of extremists, from both the right-wing and within the Muslim community, seek to utilise this terrible tragedy to further their own ends and polarise communities, calling to more violence and bloodshed.

We urge all communities to remain calm and vigilant and to not be taken in by the mindless ranting of the extremists in our midst.

The overwhelming majority of the Muslim community stands united with the rest of society in condemning this tragedy.
